Glen Motz

Meet The Candidate

Glen Motz was raised on his family farm and ranch north of Hanna, Alberta. After completing high school in 1976, he came to Medicine Hat and attended Hillcrest Christian College. While attending Hillcrest, he met and in 1978 married his wife Sue and together they made Medicine Hat their home. He earned a Bachelor of Religious Education Degree (minor in Business Administration from MHC) in 1980. Glen worked for the City of Medicine Hat Parks Department for two seasons as a summer student while attending post-secondary education.

After seeing a Medicine Hat Police Service (MHPS) recruitment advertisement in the Medicine Hat News, a boyhood dream was rekindled. Glen sensed God’s call on his life that policing was to be his career in the community of Medicine Hat. He was hired and began his policing career in November 1980.

Over the years as a member of the MHPS, Glen served in a variety capacities and sections, moving through the ranks to ever increasing leadership roles and responsibilities. Then in 2007, Glen was promoted to the rank of Inspector and became part of the Executive Team in the Office of the Chief. As one of the Commissioned Officers, he partnered in providing overall leadership and direction to all Divisions within the Police Service. Glen retired from Policing in December 2015 after serving the community for 35 years. He has always considered it a huge honor and privilege to have been entrusted by the citizens of Medicine Hat to serve them in this capacity.

Throughout his career Glen has received numerous accolades and several exemplary service awards. Most notably, in 2012 Glen received the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal for dedicated service to his peers, community and to Canada. Then in May 2013, His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General... Read Bio
